Bogra’s most exciting football competition ‘District Commissioner Gold Cup Football Tournament’ has begun in a festive atmosphere with colorful arrangements. State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam inaugurated the tournament at the football field adjacent to Shaheed Chandu Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Bogra Deputy Commissioner Taufiqur Rahman presided over the inaugural ceremony of the football tournament, jointly organized by the Bogra District Administration and the District Sports Organization.
Rezaul Karim Badsha MP, Kazi Rafiqul Islam MP, Suraiya Jerin MP, Bogra City Corporation Administrator MR Islam Swadhin and District Council Administrator Ahsanul Tayyab Zakir were special guests at the inaugural ceremony.

Besides, sports organizer Syed Aminul Haque Dewan Sajal, member secretary of the district sports association Khwaja Abu Hayat Hiru, district sports officer Akram Hossain, representatives of the police superintendent, district administration officials, upazila executive officers and sports organizers were present at the inaugural ceremony.
Dupchanchia upazila made a good start by defeating Sariakandi upazila 5-4 in the tiebreaker in the inaugural match. As both teams were tied 1-1 at the scheduled time, the result was decided in the tiebreaker.
In his speech as the chief guest, Mir Shahe Alam said that the government will build a playground in every union of Bogra district on government land. In addition, mini stadiums will be built in every upazila and para sports villages will be built at a cost of Rs. 130 crore in the three capitals of the city. He said that the current government is including sports in textbooks to spread sports across the country. It is organizing various competitions for school, college and madrasa students. The government has also taken the initiative to provide retirement allowance to national athletes.

A total of 14 teams, including 13 upazilas of the district and Bogra City Corporation, are participating in this tournament. The teams are divided into two groups and participating in the game. Deputy Commissioner Taufiqur Rahman said that in this tournament, along with an attractive trophy, the champion team will receive 3 lakh taka cash and the runner-up team will receive 1.5 lakh taka cash prize money. In addition, the man of the match of each game will receive a trophy and 12 thousand taka cash, and the player of the tournament and the highest goal scorer will receive 10 thousand taka cash along with a trophy. To make the game more attractive, each team has the opportunity to include 2 foreign and 2 domestic players in the team.
Meanwhile, on the opening day, the football field adjacent to Shaheed Chandu Stadium was full of spectators. Unable to find space on the field, thousands of spectators enjoyed the game on the roofs of multi-storey buildings and trees around the field.
