Bogra’s biggest football event, the Deputy Commissioner Gold Cup Football Tournament, jointly organized by the Bogra District Administration and the District Sports Association, is starting from next Saturday. State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam will inaugurate the tournament at 3:30 pm today.

A total of 14 teams, including 13 upazilas and one city corporation of the district, are participating in the tournament. The teams are divided into two groups and are participating in the game.

Sariakandi, Dupchanchia, Sherpur, Sonatala, Nandigram, Dhunat and Bogra City Corporation are in one group. The other group includes Adamdighi, Kahalu, Mokamtala, Shibganj, Gabtoli, Shajahanpur and Bogra Sadar Upazilas.

The tournament trophy was unveiled at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner on Thursday afternoon.

At a function organized on this occasion, Deputy Commissioner Taufiqur Rahman said that in this tournament, along with attractive trophies, the champion team will receive 3 lakh taka cash and the runner-up team will receive 1.5 lakh taka cash. In addition, the man of the match of each game will receive a trophy and 12 thousand taka cash, and the player of the tournament and the highest goal scorer will receive 10 thousand taka cash along with the trophy.

He also said that each team will be able to field a maximum of 4 foreign players. Out of these, 2 are domestic and 2 are foreign. The remaining 7 players will have to be taken from their respective upazilas. He said that two bamboo galleries have been built on the eastern side of the field due to the fear of not being able to accommodate spectators on the field. In addition, all necessary measures have been taken so that spectators can sit on the field and enjoy the game. He also said that security measures will be strengthened to deal with any unexpected situation.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mejbaul Karim, Additional Superintendent of Police Raihan Ahmed, District Sports Association Member Secretary Khawaja Abu Hayat Hiru, Member Raju Paikar, Venue Manager of Shahid Chandu Stadium Jamilur Rahman Jamil, Acting President of Bogra Press Club Rahat Ritu, President of Bogra Sports Reporters Association Mostafa Mughal, General Secretary H Alim, former footballer Shahidul Islam Swapan, Senior Sports Reporters Zahurul Islam, Tofazzal Hossain, Sanaul Haque Shuvo and other district administration officials were present at the event.
