Bangladesh tasted victory in Mushfiqur Rahim’s 100th Test. Nazmul Hossain Shanto’s team defeated Ireland by 217 runs. And in that, Bangladesh whitewashed the Irish 2-0.

Chasing a target of 509 runs, Bangladesh had already taken 6 wickets for 176 runs yesterday. Then, on the fifth day, it seemed like a matter of time before they won the series and whitewashed them.

However, the Irish did not let the task go easy at all. Earlier in the day, Taijul Islam became the first Bangladeshi bowler to take 250 Test wickets. However, the visitors put up a fight from then on. In the next two pairs, they made 48 runs off 85 balls and 54 runs off 191 balls respectively. Curtis Campher led both pairs. He scored 71 runs in a marathon innings of 259 balls. The fear of a draw with his bat also loomed large in the Bangladesh camp.

However, that fear vanished in one over. Hoey was dismissed for 37 off 104 balls. Hasan Murad dismissed him. He did not make a mistake in taking the last wicket either. When Matthew Humphries was bowled with the first ball, Bangladesh went on to win the match by a large margin. Taijul and Hasan Murad took 4 wickets each.

Earlier, in the first innings, Bangladesh scored 476 runs on centuries from Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das. In reply, the Irish were all out for 265 runs. In the second innings, Bangladesh came out to bat and scored 297 runs. Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Shadman Islam, Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim scored fifties. Bangladesh declared their innings with a lead of 508 runs. Although the Irish raised the barrier in the last innings, Bangladesh went on to win the match by a huge margin of 217 runs.
