FIFA is going to introduce a new award. It is called the ‘FIFA Peace Prize’. The world football governing body will present the award for the first time at the 2026 World Cup draw on December 5. The World Cup starts on June 11 next year in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

FIFA said on Wednesday that the award will be known as the ‘FIFA Peace Prize’ and will ‘recognize outstanding contributions to peace.’ FIFA President Gianni Infantino has a close relationship with US President Donald Trump. Infantino was asked whether the award would go to Trump first? But Infantino did not give any indication on this matter. In Infantino’s words, ‘You will see on December 5.’

Infantino made this comment at the Americas Business Forum in Miami. He was asked this question after Trump gave a speech at the same event.

Infantino also said at the ceremony on Wednesday, “In an increasingly unstable and divided world, it is very important to recognize the extraordinary contribution of those who work hard to end conflicts and bring people together in a spirit of peace.” FIFA said the award will be presented by Infantino this year. It will then be given annually “on behalf of fans around the world.”

Infantino said the World Cup draw “is the right platform to reward those who have done or are doing so much for peace; because football can help a little, but then we need leaders who will lead the way and achieve the goal in the right way.”

US President Trump was not considered for the Nobel Peace Prize last month. Although Trump has been recommended for the prize by Republicans and global leaders, Trump himself has tried. Infantino publicly acknowledged his close relationship with Trump at the ceremony, “I have a wonderful relationship with President Trump, I am really lucky… I consider him a really close friend. “He has been very helpful in all our work for the World Cup.”

FIFA has recently forged another relationship with Trump. Trump’s daughter Ivanka has been appointed to the board of a $100 million education project funded in part by ticket sales for the 2026 World Cup.
