The BCB had once again chosen Bogra’s Shahid Chandu Stadium for the preparation camp ahead of the upcoming ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Bangladesh had successfully practiced at this ground before going to the 2020 World Cup. So this time too, the Cricket Board remembered Bogra first. But at the last minute, the BCB changed its decision. The World Cup-bound youth camp will not be held in Bogra.

The special camp of the World Cup-bound Bangladesh Under-19 cricket team was supposed to be held at Shahid Chandu Stadium from December 29 to January 5. In light of the BCB’s instructions, the wickets of Shahid Chandu Stadium and all the necessary facilities of the camp were ensured. But the BCB suddenly changed its decision. Since the first round of the BPL was played outside the capital, it has been decided to organize the World Cup-bound youth preparation camp in Mirpur. Quoting BCB’s Head of Operations Habibul Bashar Sumon, Shahid Chandu Stadium Venue Manager Jamilur Rahman Jamil said that the BCB informed about not practicing in Bogra yesterday (Monday).

It is worth noting that the Youth Cricket World Cup will be held in Zimbabwe and Namibia from January 15 to February 6. The first match of the Bangladesh team will be against arch-rivals India on January 17. Bangladesh’s other two opponents in Group B are New Zealand and the United States.

Before the Youth World Cup held in South Africa in 2020, the Bangladesh Under-19 team held a special training camp for a month at Shahid Chandu Stadium. Bangladesh also got positive results due to the similarity of the South African wicket with the Bogra wicket. Bangladesh became the champion after defeating the powerful India under the leadership of Akbar Ali.
